About

rawgit.hack is a CDN and caching proxy for source code hosting services. It fetches raw files from repositories on GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, Gitea, and Codeberg, then serves them with correct Content-Type headers for browser use.

The service provides two URL modes: production CDN URLs that are cached permanently by exact URL when a specific tag or commit hash is used, and development URLs that refresh within minutes. HTML files trigger a confirmation page before opening, while non-HTML files are served directly. The service is backed by Cloudflare's global network and has been running since 2013.

This free tier is perpetual and has no stated usage cap, so there isn’t a defensible monthly dollar value to assign. It provides the core service continuously, with practical limits only around cache behavior and invalidation, and there’s no sign-up or credit-card friction on the page.

What's included in the free tier

  • Permanent caching for CDN URLs based on the exact URL, with query strings ignored.
  • Short-lived caching for development URLs, with changes reflected within minutes.
  • Automatic cache extension for high-traffic development URLs, up to one hour.
  • Cloudflare global network delivery for both development and CDN URLs.
  • Purge cache support to force immediate invalidation of a URL.
