Yes, Upstash has a permanent free tier alongside its paid plans. The free plan includes up to 10 free databases per account, 256 MB data size limit per database, and 500K monthly commands included. FreeTier.co estimates the free tier at about $1.00/mo, and no credit card is required to sign up.
About
Upstash is a serverless data platform built for modern applications that need low-latency, globally distributed data services without managing infrastructure. It provides HTTP-based and Redis-compatible APIs for key-value storage, messaging, vector search, workflow automation, and search.
The platform is designed for edge and serverless environments, with automatic scaling, multi-region replication, persistence, and strong availability. Developers can use it to power caching, session management, rate limiting, leaderboards, chat, and other data-intensive application patterns.
- Serverless Redis with REST and Redis protocol access
- Vector, QStash, Workflow, Search, and Box products
- Global replication and low-latency access across regions
- Automatic scaling, persistence, and backups
- Built for edge platforms such as Vercel, Cloudflare Workers, and Fastly
Free Tier Value
This free tier is genuinely usable for small projects: it includes a persistent database, monthly command and bandwidth allowances, and no credit card is required to start. The cheapest paid option is pay-as-you-go at $0.20 per 100K commands, so the included 500K commands alone are worth about $1/month, with the storage and bandwidth caps adding some extra practical value while still keeping it well below the first paid tiers.
